Replacing one missing tooth with an implant

A single implant replaces one missing tooth without grinding down the neighbouring teeth. It has three parts: the implant in the bone, the abutment through the gum, and the crown.

In short
  • Usually 2–6 months from surgery to final crown.
  • Sometimes placed straight after an extraction.
  • Neighbouring teeth are left untouched.

The steps

  1. Examination and 3D x-ray.
  2. Implant placement under local anaesthetic.
  3. Healing, often with a temporary tooth.
  4. Abutment and final crown.
