Your implant passport: what it should say

Years from now, a dentist may need to repair a screw, abutment or bridge. They can only do that easily if they know exactly which implant you have. Your implant passport is that record.

In short
  • Ask for it at the end of treatment; keep a photo on your phone.
  • For Nobel Biocare, the connection matters most: conical connection NP/RP/WP, S Series NP, tri-oval (N1™) or external hex.123
  • Include lot numbers: they link your implant to any future recall notice.4

What it should say

  • Manufacturer: Nobel Biocare
  • System and exact name, e.g. NobelActive® S implant, NobelParallel™ CC implant, Nobel Biocare N1™ system
  • Connection / platform: e.g. CC NP, RP, WP; S Series NP; N1 TCC NP/RP; external hex
  • Diameter and length of each implant
  • Surface: TiUltra™ or TiUnite®
  • Lot number (sticker from the packaging)
  • Abutment and crown/bridge: type, material, manufacturer
  • Tooth positions, date, clinic, surgeon

No passport?

Ask the clinic that treated you for the records. If that is not possible, a dentist can often identify the system from x-rays and the connection, but this is not always certain.
