A metal-free, two-piece implant

The NobelPearl™ implant is made of ceramic (zirconia), not titanium. Its US clearance was filed by the Swiss company Dentalpoint AG under the names Zeramex XT / NobelPearl.1

Why some patients ask for ceramic

Some patients prefer to avoid metal, or worry about grey showing through thin gums. A ceramic implant is white.

Systematic review

Systematic reviews comparing zirconia and titanium implants report results that depend on the outcome and follow-up studied; the long-term evidence base for zirconia is smaller. 234

Limits to know

  • Fewer sizes than titanium systems.1
  • Fewer long-term studies than for titanium implants.3
  • Not every clinic stocks ceramic implants or has experience with them.
